In this week's newsletter, I'll highlight the brand-new river cruises that will be making their debut next year. For day-to-day sightseeing details, departure dates and rates, click the links.

AmaWaterways

Paris & Normandy: Art-Themed Cruise (9 or 11 days) -- Participate in complimentary painting classes and join art discussions on a Seine cruise that visits Monet's Giverny and Van Gogh's home in Auvers-sur-Oise.

Beer-Themed Cruises (8 to 11 days) -- Sample ales and lagers on three departures, one in Holland and Belgium and two on the Danube during the holidays. These will feature beer-pairing dinners and tastings. Beer expert and Philadelphia Daily News columnist Don Russell, also known as "Joe Sixpack," will be on board.

Golden Treasures of Myanmar (11 or 14 days) -- The new AmaPura will carry 56 passengers on the Irrawaddy River, in spacious suites with balconies (either a French balcony, a full balcony or both). The itinerary highlights sacred sites, artisans' workshops, Buddhist monasteries and markets.

American Queen Steamboat Company

Mark Twain (8 days) -- A round-trip cruise from St. Louis pays tribute to the creator of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. The first stop is Hannibal, Missouri, Twain's hometown, which you'll explore through the eyes of the writer.

Oktoberfest (8 days) -- This sailing between St. Paul and St. Louis celebrates the best of German-style beers from heartland breweries.

A-ROSA Cruises

Méditerranée (8 days) -- Travel France's Rhone River from Lyon, known as the country's gastronomic capital. The ship follows the river south through the Provence region to Arles, not far from the Mediterranean coast.

Mini Cruise Romance on the Rhine (5 days) -- This jaunt begins and ends in the German city of Cologne, famed for its twin-steepled Gothic cathedral. Elsewhere in Germany, explore the city squares of Mannheim and the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz. France's Strasbourg, with its mix of French and German cultures, is another stop.

Danube Classics (8 days) -- Your ship docks overnight in the Old World cities of Vienna and Budapest on this itinerary. Also visit the Benedictine abbey of Melk, which offers superb views from its terrace, and the Slovakian capital, Bratislava.

Golden Myanmar & the Alluring Irrawaddy (14 to 19 days) -- The new Avalon Myanmar will carry just 36 passengers on the Irrawaddy, where intriguing encounters await. Visit a community of pottery artisans, meet local schoolchildren and spend time in a farmer's home.

Rhine & Rhone Revealed (15 or 16 days) -- This voyage travels between the Mediterranean and the North Sea. Highlights include a canal cruise in Amsterdam, an excursion to Heidelberg Castle, a day to explore Lyon and onboard chocolate and cheese tastings.

The Blue Danube Discovery: Opera Cruise (8 or 13 days) -- Professional opera singers will perform works by Verdi, Mozart, Puccini and other composers on this Danube sailing.

The Loire, a Royal Legacy (6 or 8 days) -- This French itinerary showcases the chateaux of the Loire Valley, including Chateau d'Azay-le-Rideau, erected on a small island in the Indre River, and Chateau d'Ussé, thought to have been the inspiration for Charles Perrault as he wrote "Sleeping Beauty." There's also an optional excursion to tour the renowned Saint-Nazaire shipyard, where many cruise ships are built.

Viking River Cruises

Legends of the Rhine (8 days) -- Hop across the centuries on this voyage. Nijmegen is the oldest city in the Netherlands, tracing its roots to Roman times; it's also the site of a World War II battle commemorated at the Overloon War and Resistance Museum.
