DAY 3: Cologne

Stroll through the narrow streets of Old Town as you make your way to the cathedral, the city’s beloved landmark and a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Cologne boasts no fewer than five Christmas Markets, so we have planned an entire day in this city for you to discover these markets at your own pace following the tour. Be sure to visit the Cologne Cathedral Christmas Market, as well as Alter Markt in front of the City Hall, Neumarkt in Cologne’s shopping area, and the Medieval Christmas Market in front of the Chocolate Museum. DAY 4: Rüdesheim

DAY 5: Frankfurt

DAY 6: Wertheim

Charming Wertheim sits at the confluence of the Main and Tauber rivers. We’ll dock right in the heart of town and explore Wertheim on foot. This postcard-perfect town has a Pointed Tower, a former jail built in 1170, Old Town, Market Square, a 15th-century Gothic church, and wonderful shops adorned for the holidays. (BB, L, D)
DAY 7: Würzburg (Rothenburg)
Featured Excursion: Full-day Rothenburg and Christmas Market
Germany’s “Romantic Road” leads to charming villages, towns, and cities between the Main River and the Alps; today, you’ll travel along parts of the “Romantic Road” to Rothenburg. An ancient walled city perched high in the hills, Rothenburg is celebrated for its well-preserved Medieval buildings and its unspoiled setting. Discover this fairytale gem on your guided walking tour. Browse one of Germany’s oldest and most celebrated Christmas Markets which is set amid buildings that date back to the Middle Ages. (BB, D)
DAY 8: Würzburg, cruising the Main River
Featured Excursion: Würzburg Residenz and Christmas Market
Visit Germany’s most pristine example of Baroque architecture—the stunning 18th-century Würzburg Residenz, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Amble through Würzburg’s Christmas Market and then cruise the wonderfully peaceful Main River to Wertheim during the afternoon. (BB, L, D)
DAY 9: Bamberg
Featured Excursion: Bamberg Nativity Walk and Christmas Market
An architectural gem boasting Renaissance palaces, Baroque houses, and a breathtaking cathedral, Bamberg is one of Germany’s most beautiful cities, and it has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage city. During the holidays, Bamberg continues its centuries-old tradition with Nativity Scenes stationed throughout the city. Your Bamberg Nativity Walk takes you past many of these beautiful displays. Next, visit the Christmas Market, with its local crafts, smoked sausages, gingerbread, and Rauchbier— Bamberg’s famous smoked beer. (BB, L, D)
DAY 10: Nuremberg
Featured Excursion: Nuremberg city tour and Christmas Market
Nuremberg is an archetypal German Medieval city, and your tour takes you past the mighty ancient walls with 80 towers that enclose the historic city center. You’ll stop at the Medieval Kaiserburg Castle, and then walk through the lively old quarter with its well-preserved traditional half-timbered houses. And you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy the festive atmosphere of Nuremberg’s Christkindlesmarkt with its 200 wooden stalls filled with distinctive gifts and seasonal treats, such as Nuremberg’s world-famous gingerbread. DAY 11: Nuremberg (disembark), transfer to the airport
